It's Coming Down
04:33
|
|||
Take me down into the river.
Lay me down and let me go.
Watch me carried by the water,
So calm and slow.
You once called me King of Nothing,
But who am I to steal your crown?
Can you feel your kingdom crumbling?
'Cause it's coming down.
It's coming down like thunder,
And you will cry as you see it hit the ground.
Whatever plan you made,
Whatever game you played,
It's coming down.
It's coming down like thunder,
And you will cry as you see it hit the ground.
Whatever flag you've flown,
Whatever thing you own,
It's coming down.
Now I'm drifting with the current
From the river to the sea.
You're still standing on the shoreline
Looking out for me.
And you may pray I'm gone forever,
But I know one day I'll be found.
Your plan to get away with murder:
It's coming down.
It's coming down like thunder,
And you will cry as you see it hit the ground.
The sad defense you raise
To any god you praise,
It's coming down.
The life you thought you'd lead,
The one built you built on greed,
It's coming down.

Washed Up
07:04
|
|||
I'm washed up.
I'm shot down.
I can't believe
This is happening.
All my work
Gone to dust.
How can it be
That it's happening?
I hear talk
Behind my back,
But I can't tell
What it's saying.
Was I wrong?
Perhaps, I was.
I wish I could tell
What they're saying.
I see businessmen on buildings.
I see chaos on the street.
Looking up, I have to wonder
How the two of them shall meet.
I'd step up,
But it's too late.
EVerything I see
Is falling.
From the sky,
Down like rain,
Everything
Is falling.
More and more of them are jumping.
Did you see it on TV?
They were people from good families.
Captains of the industry.
I'm washed up.
I'm spit out.
I'm a refuge
From yesterday.
Nothing new
Under the sun.
Just some refuges
From yesterday.

Autumnal
05:27
|
|||
Up from the street and down from the hill,
The road alone is a bitter pill.
To see a house with a light inside,
It warms the heart, it turns the tide.
Out in the yard, a figure I see:
A shadow, a gardner, there next to a tree.
I didn't recognize the clothes he wore,
But I knew I'd seen that face before.
Dressed in a much outdated style,
A tall man stands with a distance smile.
I'd heard his voice when I was young.
I remembered the words to the songs he'd sung.
I see you today. I've heard you before,
But didn't you die back in '74?
Oh, can you tell me?
You've been on my mind.
Oh, did you travel?
And what did you find?
I don't think much of the questions you ask.
My life now bound by a different task.
I care for the trees and when clouds roll by,
I raise my broom and sweep the sky.
But what about the songs you used to sing?
And the people you touched, do they mean a thing?
Oh, can you tell me?
You've been on my mind.
Oh, I can tell you,
They were so unkind.
Take in this garden and feel the sun.
I tend it from morning 'til day is done.
So, I looked out to admire the trees and the lawn,
But when I turned back, the man was gone.
And in his place, standing next to me
Was a fragile, sappling apple tree.
Oh, can you tell me?
You've been on my mind.
Oh, I could tell you
Of all you left behind.
Up the street and down the hill,
As I wander along, I think of him still.
His haunting voice, his timeless style,
A walking companion for mile upon mile.

I'm Walking Home
04:22
|
|||
I just lost my job today,
And I don't know what to say.
I'm walking home.
I've driven this road for so so long,
How could everything go so wrong?
I'm walking home.
I should have turned left, but I turned right.
A light trick of the night.
I'm walking home.
So many cars have passed me by.
No one stops. That's why
I'm walking home.
I'm walking home.
I should be there by morning.
I'm walking home.
I'm coming down the line.
I'm walking home.
They cut me with no warning.
I'm walking home.
How many times have I looked around
And not seen what I've found?
I'm walking home.
My life til today was a fantasy,
But now just look at me.
I'm walking home.
I'm walking home.
I should be there by morning.
I'm walking home.
I'm coming down the line.
I'm walking home.
It happened with no warning.
I'm walking home.
I'm walking home.
I'm finished with this business.
I'm walking home.
I'm running out of time.
I'm walking home.
Won't you tell me who's life this is.
I'm walking home.
Something's wrong with the world today,
And there's nothing more left to say.
I'm walking home.

Heartbeat
03:59
|
|||
Look out your window
Out past the trees
I'm standing, waiting.
Come to me, baby.
Come to me, please.
I found a picture
From when we met.
It said forever.
I still remember.
I won't forget.
I woke up suddenly
From a bad dream.
I saw the whole thing
From the beginning,
Each wretched scene.
Though i'm not with you,
I'm in your heart.
One day, you'll feel me.
You'll feel your heart beat.
You'll feel your heart beat.
You'll feel your heart.

Strawman
03:59
|
|||
I saw a strawman
Standin' out in the field.
I saw a strawman
Standin' out in the field.
All around him's burnin',
But he refuse to yield.
I saw a strawman,
And he's callin' out my name.
I saw a strawman,
And he's callin' out my name.
All around him's burnin',
And he thinks that I'm to blame.
I saw a strawman.
Now he's comin' up to me
I saw a strawman..
Now he's comin'straight up to me.
I was shakin' in my shoes,
Just as scared as I can be.
I saw a strawman
Lighin' up the night sky.
I saw a strawman
Lighin' up the night sky.
He's a burnin', burnin', burnin',
But he refuse to die.

Jumper
03:50
|
|||
On the way to work this morning.
On the street where I'm employed.
I saw people and police cars.
Street was blocked. A squad deployed.
I asked a policeman what had happened.
He said he really couldn't say,
Only that I couldn't pass there.
I'd have to find another way.
And that is when I saw the body,
Laying face down on the street.
Behind a car that had been parked there.
All I saw were legs and feet.
How could such a thing have happened?
Was he someone that I knew?
These thoughts continued to absorb me
As I crossed the avenue.
From my window on the fourth floor,
I could witness the whole scene.
Policemen talking, taking pictures.
The body still and so serene.
He must have jumped or maybe fallen
Off the building just next door.
Twenty seven stories downward.
To the concrete pavement floor.
On his way down did he look out
At the Great Lake to the east?
Did he think about his family?
Did he feel his soul released?

Rangeline
03:30
|
|||
i'm on upon i'm gone i'm gone i'm running
with luck and truck like duck way south i'll be
spread high i fly i try i spy you gunning
left turn i learn to spurn your remedy
that way ok you say i pay i'm thinking
what time what crime who's dime what slime are you
that's it i quit no shit i split like lincoln
good will i spill to fill that empty shoe
that rangeline of trees out there
makes me think of balmy air
you won't go but i don't care
i'll still see you everywhere
he'll die i'll cry goodbye goodbye my brother
live on respond with calm he said to me
ok today i'll stay here with your mother
and next week i'll seek to tweak your destiny
i know i go i thought i'd see you coming
you know i know you know i know you know
i know i go i won't let any sun in
you know i go to throw him out the door
that rangeline of trees you see
looks so very good to me
for once i reach it i'll be free
and whatever will be will be
