lyrics

I whisper to you from my room.
A whisper is a feeling...

I always liked this building.
To me one thing was clear:
I knew that one day I'd live here.

My neighbors come and go.
I hear them through the ceiling.
But what they're up to, I don't know.

I am so still.
I make no sound.
They never know when I'm around.

Sometimes I leave my music on
And go downstairs out to the lawm
And listen to what it's like
To be on the outside.
And then I go back up the stair
And through my door and to my chair
And think about what it's like
To be on the inside.

I don't pay for my water,
And so I leave it on.
It sounds, to me, just like a song.

But I pay for my light,
And so I leave it off.
The dawn coming in so strange and soft.

I had to change my life.
I felt it coming on.
The past is better when it's gone.

And so I left my wife.
I left my children too.
I didn't know what else to do.

Sometimes I leave my music on
And go downstairs out to the lawn
And listen to what it's like
To be on the outside.
And then I go back up the stair
And through my door and to my chair
Remembering what it was like
To be on the inside.

I whisper to you from my room.
This room invites the evening.
I hope it don't get dark too soon.
